After meeting in the 1980s at California College of Arts and Crafts, Brian and Tara Brenno have been making art and raising kids together. Since 1997 Brian has had his glass studio on Vashon Island. Known for his whimsical “Wiggle Stand” glass hat series he exhibits his hat series nationwide. Tara is an Elementary School art teacher and works in many mediums. Recently she started a line of bowls and platters with hand-painted glaze designs.
Both Brian and Tara have worked with recycled materials since their college days. Both have a love of “Outsider” and “Folk” art and its use of materials available at hand, many times recycled materials. For the past several years we have developed products and art work made from recycled materials. Our Lollipop Flower and Garden Flower Series are made from recycled waste glass from our studio. Each Monday morning we collect bottles and cans from our local restaurants and bars. We cut the bottles up, fuse the bottoms together and create our Garden Pendant series. By cutting beer and pop cans into small mosaic pieces we create two dimensional scenes, many based on local and national icons.
